§ 15-93. Jurisdiction and procedure.

  • A justice of peace shall have concurrent jurisdiction over stripped, junked or inoperative motor vehicle violations occurring anywhere in the parish in which the said justices of peace court is situated. It being the intent of the parish council-president government that justices of peace within the parish have all of the powers and authority allowed under law. In addition, a constable within the parish may issue summons and issue subpoenas for such violations occurring anywhere in the parish in which his/her court is situated.

    All fines collected by the justices of peace courts in the parish for stripped, junked or inoperative motor vehicle violations pursuant to state and parish law shall be paid to the parish pursuant to law and further providing that the parish shall reimburse to the justices of peace court which handles the litter violation or violations for the time spent and expenses incurred as an appropriate amount which reimbursement shall consist of 100 percent of the fines collected by the parish from the said justices of peace courts.
