§ 19-193. Board of commissioners.

  • (a)

    The hospital service district formed under this division shall be governed by a board of five commissioners, hereafter referred to as the commission, who shall be qualified voters and residents of the district. The commission shall be appointed by the parish council. Commissioners shall be appointed for six-year terms.

    (b)

    When a vacancy occurs on the board of commissioners of hospital service district no. 1, the parish council shall inform the town or city from wherein the vacancy occurred, and shall request that the civic clubs of the town or city furnish the council with three names which shall be considered by the council, and from these three names, the successor shall be selected by the council.

    (c)

    The commissioners may each receive a per diem of $25.00 while attending meetings of the commission, not to exceed 12 meetings per year. Any member of the commission may be removed from office for cause and his appointment rescinded by two-thirds vote of the elected membership of the council.
