§ 22-56. Determination of maximum tonnage allowed on streets; erection of signs.

  • (a)

    The parish president shall inspect or shall cause to be inspected all streets, lanes and public ways outside of the unincorporated municipalities of the parish, other than state-maintained highways, and shall prescribe the necessary regulations and the maximum vehicular tonnage permitted for travel thereon.

    (b)

    The parish president shall be responsible for seeing that clear and understandable signs are erected at the entrances to such streets, lanes and public ways designating the prescribed regulations and maximum tonnage of a vehicle travelling thereon.

    (c)

    Any person travelling upon any street, lane or public way in violation of such prescribed regulations and maximum tonnage shall be condemned to pay all damages to the streets, lanes and public ways caused by him and to also be subject to the penalties prescribed in subsection (d) of this section. As to the damages caused, every employer shall be liable for the damage caused by his employee if the employee is acting within the scope and course of his employment.

    (d)

    Any person violating any of the rules and regulations provided by this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof, shall be punished as provided by section 1-13 of this Code.
