§ 5-70. Signs indicating filing of application; posting required; investigation of applicant; petitions of opposition.

  • (a)

    Immediately upon the filing of the application for a permit for a new business under this article, the sheriff's office shall furnish to the applicant a sign stating that the applicant is applying for a permit hereunder; the applicant shall pay the cost of the sign to the sheriff at the time he receives the sign. The applicant shall display this sign on the front door of the premises for a period of 15 days during which time the sheriff's office shall make an appropriate investigation of the requirements called for under this article and receive any sworn petition of opposition that may be filed against the applicant.

    (b)

    The sworn petition of opposition may be based upon any cause or causes enumerated in this article, or in the applicable laws of the state for the withholding of such permits.
