§ 8-4. Insurance and surety bond for residential and commercial buildings.

  • Insurance:

    (1)

    All general contractors and subcontractors shall furnish the building official a certificate of public liability insurance issued by an insurance company authorized to do and doing business in the State of Louisiana for such purpose, said insurance policy to be in a minimum amount of $100,000.00 each person, $300,000.00 each accident, and a minimum of $100,000.00 for property damage.

    (2)

    Each policy required by this section shall, by its terms, provide that it cannot be canceled until ten business days have elapsed since receipt by the building official of written notice of such cancellation. Said written notice shall be hand delivered to the building official, receipt of which shall be signed and dated by said building official, or mailed to the building official by certified mail, return receipt requested.

    (3)

    Prior to the cancelation of any insurance policy required herein, the general contractor and/or subcontractor shall provide a replacement policy of public liability insurance in the amounts set forth in this section. Failure to do so will result in the suspension of his/her license, as of the effective date of the expiration and/or cancellation.

    (4)

    Suspension of license, as provided herein, shall be automatic and effective without notice or hearing, as otherwise required by this part.
